Initially part of the land inhabited by the Algonquian Massachusetts tribe, the town of Arlington, when first settled by European colonists in 1635 was called Menotomy. The town was incorporated as West Cambridge in 1807, and finally named Arlington in 1867.

Spy Pond, is a 103-acre (0.42 km2) kettle hole pond located near the heart of Arlington, Massachusetts, adjacent to the Minuteman Bikeway. The Minuteman Bikeway is a 10-mile paved multi-use trail that passes through the town of Arlington.
Over the last two decades Arlington’s residents have attracted numerous restaurants most of these located along vibrant Massachusetts Ave. and busier streets adjoining that thoroughfare with many restaurants offering diverse ethnic menus. The Robbins Library and most town buildings are located near Arlington Center; East Arlington offers the Capitol Movie Theater; Arlington Heights offers the nearest large grocery, many eateries and the delicious Lakota Bakery.
