Good luck Rotary Golfers!

Winchester Rotary Club hosts Annual Golf Tournament

Winchester Rotary Club hosts Annual Golf Tournament

Tomorrow is the highly anticipated Rotary Golf Tournament hosted at the Winchester Country Club! Shanahan Real Estate Group, since its inception, has been one of the sponsors of the Rotary Golf Tournament and will be fielding a foursome tomorrow.Just as the En Ka Fair held this past weekend brings in funds the En Ka Society then gives out via grants to important projects in Winchester, proceeds from Rotary's Annual Golf Tournament in May also go to grant requests submitted to Rotary on a rolling basis and reviewed by Rotary monthly. The Shanahan (Fearsome) Foursome is made up of Rich Shanahan, husband of Nan the owner of Shanahan Real Estate Group; Charlie Price, husband of Mary; Jeff Laird, husband of Rebecca Brennan Laird; and Jim Weisman, husband of Felicity Tuttle, the latter three ladies agents at the company. We are all wishing them well for their outing tomorrow and we know that, regardless of their final standings, they will enjoy the camaraderie of the event and the 19th Hole, dinner and auction to follow at the Country Club! -Contributed by Felicity Tuttle

Another great EnKa- thank you, ladies!

The Ferris Wheel at EnKa in Winchester MA

The Ferris Wheel at EnKa

This is the weekend of tradition when the Enka Fair comes to Town. This event evokes so many memories for Winchester residents as we recall the excitement of watching the trucks roll into Town and waiting for the fair to open on Friday night. Over the years the Fair has been in many different locations including in back of the Town Hall, Skillings Field and Manchester Field. (How many of us remember making plans to meet friends "at the rock" when EnKa was at Manchester Field?) We have also seen all kinds of weather from pouring rain with thunder and lightening to sweltering heat to frigid temperatures but the show always goes on. Isn't it amazing that after a solid week of rain and drizzle this year, the sun appeared Friday afternoon and continued right through Saturday?

Winchester MA Volunteers Keep Tradition Alive

This is where Winchester shines as volunteers spend endless hours to keep the fair tradition alive and all to raise money for many good causes around Winchester. This major fundraiser for the Enka Society has kept the Ladies of the EnKa Society busy since 1935. I have had many a buyer decide to purchase a home in Winchester after spending an Enka weekend here and seeing the parade and all the spirit of a small old fashioned town. Young and old come out to celebrate spring in Winchester all for a really good cause. It's one of the things that defines Winchester as strong family community and something we all look forward to each year. And then, after all this fun, we wake up Sunday morning and all the rides and games have disappeared like magic. Thanks Enka Society for another great year!

Serving our community- and having fun doing it!

While we are busy with a hectic spring market, the agents at Shanahan Real Estate Group are also attending some great Winchester events organized by groups that make up the fabric of our town. This was a busy week in town with several fun and important events taking place. Last Wednesday evening, several of us attended the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Dinner where over three hundred people came out to honor Charlie Price and Carl Boerner. Over the years, these men have dedicated coutless hours to extensive volunteer work, across several town organizations. It was a great opportunity to see the many people of this town who do so many good things that make Winchester such a special place to live. The next day was the combined lunch of members of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. This well attended event was a great opportunity for the business people of Winchester to get together and listen to Mark Ockerbloom from Channel 25/FOX News.Mark is a native Winchesterite and he talked about how he got into the broadcasting business and has moved around but Winchester will always be home.

Shanahan Agents in the Winchester Community

WCMS Music MAYnia Trolley Winchester MA

WCMS Music MAYnia Trolley

At Shanahan Real Estate Group, it's important to be involved and support these worthwhile events. Most recently, Shanahan Real Estate Group co-sponsored the trolley for the Winchester Community Music School's Music MAYnia. All of our agents have commitments outside of work with groups that support various causes in Winchester and our neighboring communities. We believe in our community and contribute our time and skills to the groups that we hold close to our hearts, from environmental groups to civic organizations. Below are some of our agents' thoughts on the organizations that they individually support: From Mary Price, Winton Club As a member of Winton Club, I recently set up another "lobby sale" at Winchester Hospital for the week before Father's Day. Vendors bring in their wares and the Winton Shop receives a percentage of monies from their sales of that day. All proceeds from our lobby sales are included in the Winton Shop sizable donation made to the hospital each year. This coming year, I transition from lobby sale chairperson to gift buyer for the Winton Shop. Luckily, I have two other wonderful members working on gift buying with me, Carolyn Doyle, and Cheryl Laurintano. Again, all profits benefit the Winchester Hospital. From Karen Garrett, Family Action Network of Winchester I have been involved in this group since moving back to Winchester two years ago and just completed my first year on the board. I serve as a co-chair of the Membership Committee, with my very good friend (also a Winchester native). It is a great way to stay connected with other busy parents and to discuss issues that are important to all of us with young families. Many of my closest friends are also part of this organization and in my role, I get to meet many new Winchester families. It has been a satisfying and fun way to contribute to our community and spend some time with my family. From Felicity Tuttle, Winchester Multicultural Network and other groups I have loved being able to participate on the Board of the Winchester Multicultural Network which is so focused on culture, diversity, fairness, and advocating for people who come to us seeking assistance. This has been an important connection between my interest in bringing to Winchester people from many cultures who further enrich the breadth of our community. Similarly, volunteering on the Winchester Housing Partnership Board helps fulfill my interest and hope that by creating more affordable housing we can enable more families with limited resources to become renting and home-owning town residents. Leading Winchester Trails walks to expand the nature education of our 4th and 5th graders in town enables me to stay in touch with a number of those eager young faces I miss as my children are now adults. Volunteering in each of these areas is truly as much of a gift to myself as a possible benefit to others! May and June are always busy months for town events, with many favorites happening in the coming weeks. Next weekend is the EnKa Fair, followed by Town Day on the 4th of June. These are such great, long running town events with many activities for kids and adults. Check out our town calendar page for a list of events that we enjoy.

Mother's Day at Shanahan Real Estate Group

Most of us at Shanahan Real Estate Group are mothers and, like all mothers, we spend most days balancing work and family life. On this Mothers Day, we wanted to share how some of our agents spend the day. We hope you enjoy this day and take some time to appreciate the mothers in your life.

From Karen Garrett, mom of three:

Its a big one this year for me for two reasons: First, I became a mother for the third time on March 1st. My husband and I welcomed our first daughter- a bright and shiny little girl who has reminded us of how special life is and how lucky we are. She joins two very energetic and loving brothers who treat her with more care and gentleness than we have ever seen from them.Mother's Day at Shanahan Real Estate Group Second, my oldest son turned five this week and went to Kindergarten orientation at Lincoln School. It was an exciting week for him, but a little tough for Mom. I know I am not the only mother to feel this way, but its tough for me to imagine letting him go and there is a tiny sense of dread as the next school year approaches. So, this Mothers Day, I am hoping for a little bit of peace to enjoy my family and take a break from everything else that keeps us busy during the week. I am also hoping to spend some time with my boss. She is also my mom, Nan Shanahan. Shes an everyday inspiration for me, as I learn how to balance a crazy work and home life. We have a family dinner together every Sunday, but Mothers Day is a special time for us to bond and enjoy.

From June OKeefe, mom of three:

As Realtors, ourwork focusis on houses. On Mother's Day,our focus is not on houses but homes. Our mothers made our houses into homes, and we now do that for our children and grandchildren. Isn't that one of our gifts as mothers? When we work with someone to find them a house, we are passing along the opportunity to them to turn it from a house to a home. Happy Mother's Day to all!

From Rebecca Brennan, mom of two:

One of the Mother's Day traditions at my house is that my boys make me breakfast, and it is usually crepes. Delicious! The boys set the table with a number of yummy toppings and make the crepes hot and fresh as we go. The house smells like vanilla all morning. We use my Danish grandmother's crepe recipe that was handed down to me through my father. My dad always called them Danish pancakes. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized our Danish pancakes were really crepes! Here is a Mother's Day Idea - The Arnold Arboretum is having a Lilac Sunday Event! If my mother lived closer this is where we would be, as she is an avid gardener and would love being in an Arboretum filled with blooming lilacs. The scent alone would be worth the trip! Sunday, May 8th from 10-4. Check out or call the Arnold Arboretum at 617-524-1718 for more info. Happy Mother's Day!!!

From Mary Price, mom of three:

As the mother of three grown married daughters and now with 9 grandchildren, everyday is Mother's Day! I have always felt this way.

From Nan Shanahan, mom of three:

Mothers Day to meis a great time to catch up with family and let someone else cook. While Mothers Day is not traditionally an active real estate day, I actually bought a house on Mother's Day. I was afraid it would be gone so we were the buyers that Realtors love to have. We also bought our condo at The Ledges on Easter Sundayand my daughter Karen presented the offer on her previous home on the way to church Christmas Eve 2004. Real estate never sleeps! Happy Mothers Day to all of us women who work hard and always find time to love our families and do it all! As always, our office is open on Mother's Day and our agents are available to help with all of your real estate needs. Contact us with any questions about a specific property or to discuss the real estate market in Winchester or our neighboring communities.
